I Really Do "Want U Back". (Casual take) (OOTD + life updates)

Hey guys! I'm a freaking out a little bit today... just a little bit. Apparently tomorrow's the day of the first of a series of College Entrance Exams that I'm going to have to take and well, I'm nervous. I for one know that in the West, you all take your SATs. Well, here in my country, we take CETs which are college entrance exams wherein the applicants have to apply in the schools they want to study in and take an exam per school that will determine whether they will be admitted into the university or not. So you guys can pretty much see why I'm freaking out. My whole future is at stake here.

Anyway, I'm blogging today to sort of calm myself as well as to update you guys and this blog. Once again, forgive me for my inconsistent updates. School's been really hectic as usual.

 So most of you may or may not have read my previous "Want U Back" inspired outfit post. Well, looking back I thought that the outfit was really... formal per se so I decided to show you guys yet another outfit that I have concocted and wore, still inspired by Cher Lloyd's "Want U Back" US version.

Sorry for the blurry pictures. I was using a not automatic DLSR which I borrowed from my good friend Trisha so I wasn't able to tell whether the pictures were blurry or not.

Haha, I love my new nail polish colour. (#applegreenanyone?)

I really love this outfit. Especially because of the colors (nail polish included)! So to get this look, I'd advise you guys to get a sort of ombre orange shirt or something really orange with a really cool print. As for the skirt, it actually has black polka dots to complement the black writing on the shirt. You can't really see it in the picture but it's there. So that's really the key to getting a "Want U Back" look. PRINTS... and an undercut hairdo but you guys don't have to do that.

Despite that, I played it easy with my shoes, opting for a really basic white strapped heels with dark wood heels. Does it seem too painful to walk around in? Opt for flats or sandals that have solid colors and no designs. The barer the shoes, the better. Well, just for this outfit because you don't want to overdo it.

Keep the accessories minimal but ginormous for an even better retro feel. For this outfit I used my tiger bangle and a round and chunky wooden bracelet.

And remember, the best accessory for this outfit is a smile! And play it a little fierce like Cher herself.

Aside from that long delayed outfit post, what are the updates updates updates on my life? Well, I've made it a priority from now on after I finish my entrance exams to fix this blog of mine. But before that, I needed to rearrange my physical space. Mainly, my bedroom.

It's been really cluttered for a really long time but after reading lots of my mom's "lifestyle and home" magazines, I decided that I really did need to makeover my room.

The result? 

My room has never been this clean.

 

 The other half of my room still isn't done though. There's a corner stacked with junk that I have to sort out and I'm still saving money to get huge canvases to paint on and place on my wall. I love painting.

Inspiration post + My deepest apologies.

As the title of this blog post says, I am super sorry for not being able to update since May. Why? My classes have resumed once more and I no longer find enough time to take pictures and type articles for you guys, which I really am sorry for.

School has been... hectic, nonetheless. My school adapted this new system and it's really draining. 

So updates on my life? I'm taking up French classes and my electives class is fashion design. And my electives teacher and I have the same name. Only my name's spelled with a "C". (Hi Miss Korinne. I love your hair, btw!)

So this blog post isn't necessarily an outfit post or a critique or review of anything. It's just pictures of my Tumblr Archive during the month of May that would serve as some sort of inspiration board for me seeing that it's like an accurate representation of the creative processes of my brain. My brain thinks of Allison Harvard? Yes it does.

So I'm sorry if I couldn't share anything more with you guys seeing how my schedule is BOOKED. Especially with all these upcoming college entrance tests! Gosh. So I have to set my priorities straight and getting into the college I want is at the top of my priority list. (#ADMU)

Young Blood (OOTD)

I first found out about "The Naked and Famous" when my friends Bless and Mia came over at my house for a sleepover that never pushed through. Young Blood was the first song I've ever heard from TNAF and needless to say, I loved it.


So that's pretty much my inspiration for my outfit for today. I have to admit, the song really didn't strike me at first because I really couldn't understand what the singer was saying (lol i'm sorry tnaf fans.) but after I read the lyrics on the internet, I definitely was hooked.


The lyrics of the song talk about, obviously, the shenanigans as well as the mindset of the youth today. The songs describes perfectly how most of us are just wandering individuals looking for some sort of purpose as seen in the lines "The motive changes like the wind/ hard to control when it begins" as well as "Trying to find the in-between."


But the lyric that struck me the most was "Can't help myself but count the flaws." Which is a truth entirely. We've all gone or still going through some sort of "God-I-hate-myself" phase. Even I have.


"Young Blood" is such an inspiration. I've used it as a main idea in most of my art and I still am. So I decided to use it as the main inspiration for my outfit for today. Which I may or may not wear when I go laser-tagging with my friends tomorrow (well, I probably will).

So yeah, I pretty much had to stand up on a chair for you guys to stop myself from having to hold up my shoes to the camera just so that you guys can see it. And, I'm terribly sorry if I couldn't remember from which country I got the headpiece from. My parents bought it for me when I was five or six years old and it's just now that it could actually fit my head. Hahaw.

For my make up I wanted something a little... fierce? Thus the heavy eyeliner. The lipstick was an on the spot decision though! I was supposed to use a lighter and pink shade but oh well. I bought the NYX lipstick last December with my friends Grasha and Caren and buying it was an on the spot decision as well :)

First aid kits for a friend. (OOTD)

 By friend I mean you Bless. Yes, you. I know you're gonna be reading this once I link it to you.


Ehem.


Anyway, as the title implies, this post is dedicated to a lovely friend of mine named Bless, an amazing and beautiful individual (and by now i bet you guys are thinking that "amazing" and "beautiful" are the only words in my descriptive vocabulary. well they are, okay?) who constantly inspires me to get out of my comfort zone and think out of the box.


I've gone through a TON of tribulations with this girl that sometimes I look back and replay all the drama we've caused and found ourselves in (i'm not sharing anything). Despite that, I have no qualms about meeting her and she has proved to become someone who I can trust wholeheartedly.


I'm a bit dramatic am I not? :)


Aside from being such an inspiring person, she also has a very excellent taste in art and music. So a normal thing that we do is send one another links of music videos and songs that we like or see on YouTube and most of the videos she sends me all have this ethereal feeling to them.

















Aren't they all such visual and musical candy?


Yes they are.


So what I did to piece this together was to get the general mood of the videos and try to project that in my outfit. The general atmosphere is definitely "dreamy" as my friend would say so as well as floaty and whimsical. The colour palette mainly consists of neutral colors as well pale and light ones with a touch of warm colors here and there.

And what's funny is that I bought that skirt with my friend so I decided that exhibiting it for the first time in a blog post dedicated to her was just the right time to show it to you guys. 

I bought this in this sale that the college part of the school I go to was having. I was actually planning to buy this pale pink blouse that I had my eye on the day before I bought this skirt but then someone had purchased it ahead of me. DON'T YOU GUYS JUST FIND THAT FRUSTRATING?

So out of my unbridled shopping frustration, I bought this skirt which was 200 pesos more expensive than the blouse I had wanted to purchase. The lesson? It's healthy to go rage shopping only if you want your whole week's allowance to go down the drain.

So Bless, here's meddling with the supernatural, breaking the status quo and rolling in grass and dirt as well as watering it. Happy almost one year of friendship! :)

I Want You Back? (OOTD)

Yes, I'll admit it, I'm a "brat". But no not a spoiled brat or anything. I'm a Cher kind of brat. Simply put, I'm a Cher Lloyd fan which I find totally weird because I grew up listening to 'The Marvelettes' and 'Swing Out Sisters' and Tony Bennet. To simply find myself taking a liking to a rising mainstream pop icon, it's weird for me (but yes I also do like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and One Direction but that's about it). But Cher is absolutely different from the popstars we have now in the music industry. She takes her music up to a whole new level and her album is just, amazing. Recommended songs? Over The Moon, Superhero and Dub On Track (she sings along to dubstep. how nifty is that?)

But it's not just Cher's music that attracted me to her, it's also her fashion sense. It's un-bee-lee-vah-ble. 

So this outfit post is pretty much inspired by her recent music video: 'Want U Back' (US Version).

I love-love-love the music video. It's such a beautiful homage to the 80's and it's so colorful and loud and visually appealing that it leaves me so inspired. I swearsz. After watching the music video, I started looking for retro-themed pieces and orange blouses.

  
For my outfit, I took the key elements from Cher's outfit, mainly the orange printed blouse and the vibrant blue as well as her leather shorts and her undercut styled hair, her pinkish-red lips and came up with a more formal and classic looking outfit.

I got my blouse while I was shopping with my mom, sister and grandma (a girls' day out I suppose.) and we stopped by one of my favorite local stores, BAYO, and on one of the mannequins I saw the beautiful orange blouse that had such a beautiful cream collar. It's print contrasted the base color of the fabric so amazingly that I knew it was the staple piece I was looking for. Nonetheless, I bought it. Sometimes I swear these things happen by fate. (trust and pixie dust? no? okay.)

All-in-all I really love this outfit and I'm looking forward to an occasion when I can use it. (maybe a Cher Lloyd concert? who knows?)

Viscaria: Junior Prom 2012

Sorry for not posting so much! School's been really hectic but it's summer now so I'm freeeee!

Anyway, I just had my prom last February and it's honestly a unique experience. It wasn't really THAT amazing and it's really not as awesome as it's worked up to be but it was pretty  fine. I don't know, maybe that's just me. But I mostly blame the fact that I am a socially constipated fifteen year old whose love life has died over and over again from pining after British pop stars... okay, maybe I'm overreacting. I'd like to clarify that my social life is normal, thank you very much. I'm not letting you guys think I'm gonna grow up becoming a lonely cat lady. That ain't how I roooll. But what I can say about my very first and probably only prom experience is that it was fun... I guess?

So anyway my date and me were set up by my mom and her best friend because my mom insisted that I needed to bring a date seeing that it was "a once in a lifetime experience", which is true actually but I like pretending that it isn't cause I really wanted to go stag. That and all the guys I know are douches and live far far away from me. But my date, named Gio, turned out to be a really cool guy who's into basketball and really nice music and is really, really tall. HI, GIO.  (lol he'll never read this blog. i'll never let hiiiiim.)

The prom itself was okay. The food was good, the music was horrible, I don't get why they made us have a grand entrance that played tacky game show music at the background, BUT THE DESERT WAS AMAZAZING. AMAY-ZA-ZING.

If you're wondering if I slow danced, I did. No more questions.

So after the prom I was so tired that my date just brought me home. Haha, sorry, Gio. I MUST BE SO LAME. But he gave me this beautiful bouquet of carnations.

So me being the fashion illustration obsessed freak I am, I designed my prom gown. It was actually very easy to come up with designs for my gown because the theme was something that I had ample knowledge about. What was the theme of our lovely-lovely prom, you may ask? VINTAGE VICTORIAN! So I Googled Victorian gowns as well as 1920's dresses and Audrey Hepburn gowns. After doing so much research, I came up with this design that was basically a full peach colored sheer gown (with a beige lining underneath) with a short trail and a beaded collar as well a thin beaded belt. The bottom part of the dress was very reminiscent of a waterfall skirt; something that's really in now, so the gown sort of gives off a "vintage meets 21st century" kind of vibe.

Then I sent the design to my aunt, Emmy Garcia-Reyes who runs Trajes Manila. She is so amazing because she beautifully executed the gown the way I imagined it to be.

The outcome:

I know, my body is disgusting. Bleh. I paired the gown with these blush colored heels from Steve Madden which were really comfortable to walk around with for a few hours. I've always wanted heels like them and I was super lucky to have gotten them with their price marked down! My mom lent me some of her vintage accessories as well as her vintage lace pouch with stringed pearls as its handle.

My hair was curled and pulled back like Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast at Tiffany's".

Then we added these really pretty bobby pins inlaid with roses from "Accessorize".

In the end, going to prom was worth it so I'm glad I didn't miss out :)
